Here we are 15 years later and those same complaints plague Nissan owners. Rather than ironing out the kinks, Nissan executives have apparently been too busy ironing out their stacks of cash.

A CVT uses a steel belt or pulley system to move gears in a continuous ahhhsmooth motion. But the reviews from actual owners are a lot less rosy. Low speed acceleration is a particular trouble-spot for this CVT. According to owners, their vehicles will shutter and shake while getting up to speed. My transmission was reprogrammed at 12k miles. Drove well, no issues and all scheduled maintenance done regularly at the dealer. At 65k transmission started shuddering and then vehicle would stall and die in traffic, very dangerous.

Vehicle was sent into dealership three separate times, for engine pulley, reprogramming, completely new ECM. Each time the car ran worse. The vehicle is the worst I have ever owned, and would never buy another Nissan due to this. The TSB, which was written for the Murano, tells mechanics to check for these conditions if an owner complains about hesitations:. One of the reasons for all that shaking might be an overheating. Nissan has been accused of using an inadequate cooling system for their transmission.

As the CVT heats up it can vibrate excessively. And when it overheats it sends the car into fail-safe mode which limits engine RPMs as it tries to prevent damage. This can leave drivers in a dangerous position, and is one of the complaints in a Sentra Xtronic Lawsuit.

CVTs are, by design, going to feel different when you cram the accelerator to the floor. Nissan Sentra 2013 B17 transmission control module Reflash TCM UPDATE SOFTWARE

I have read and read and read on forums that all my "symptoms" sound like the TCM, I can order a used one for 65 bucks, for one through nissan here.

If I order a used one, and make sure part numbers all match, does it need to be reprogrammed at a dealer? Our symptoms are a hard "kick" when re-accelerating from slowing or a stop, and an occasional kick when it shifts, tho they are rare. Also have had one instance where the wife was driving, and received NO power to the wheels, rpm's everything like normal, she shut it off let it set for 2 hours or so, started and no issues except for the kick.

The kick is only after it has had time to run and "warm up".

The advice getting to is the tcm. I was told by the dealer that they do not have to be reprogrammed, but you have to match the part numbers. As long AC it's the sabe part number it shoukd plug right in and be read.

My ecu is losing communication with my transmission so I hope that's it. Turns out this is the 37 pin which is consistent with the DTC. My question is this: after installing the new MTCM, and, assuming that this corrects the underlying problem open circuit to the solenoid control will I have to bring it to the dealer for a reset to get out of limp mode? I have a Torque OBD tool that can clear the codes. Just not sure if there is another level of reset.

No need for dealer visit. If you fix the problem causing the fault code, and your scanner can clear TCM codes, your all set, or just disconnect battery for a few min will clear it too. Originally Posted by Darnice. Originally Posted by trunorth. Installed new TCM and codes are gone.
