A diverse and talented group of high school students who applied for early admission to Johns Hopkins University were offered admission today, making them the first members of the undergraduate Class of In choosing to apply under the early decision plan, these students identified Johns Hopkins as their top choice and committed to attend if admitted.

The 2, applicants represent a slight increase from the then-record number who applied early decision last year. Of the admitted students, 32 percent plan to study in the Whiting School of Engineering and 68 percent plan to study in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. The new students will bring impressive academic and extracurricular accomplishments to Baltimore.

Among the newest class are published authors, one of the top debaters in New York, the creator of a security necklace that guards against sexual assault, a nationally ranked tennis player, and researchers who have investigated everything from language acquisition to water waste.

Admitted early decision students will be invited to the Homewood campus for a visit day in February. Students who applied early decision can view admissions decisions at mydecision. The remainder of the Class of will be selected from the regular decision applicant pool. Regular decision applications are due by p. EST on Jan. Admissions decisions will be announced in mid-March.

Chances are, you received a deferral because you were a borderline applicant. At the same time, the admissions counselors may have felt that your application was weak in some areas, or simply not as strong as the other applicants in the early deadline pool.

Carefully review your deferral decision letter. In it, colleges will let you know if they are simply going to reevaluate your existing application with the regular decision pool, or if they want you to provide additional information.

Also, if you received any substantial awards or recognitions, you may want to update your application with that information as well.
